A cross section of thought leaders in environmental sustainability, business and sport gathered this week in Chicago for the 2015 NASCAR Green Summit presented by American Ethanol. The event, held in advance of the first race for the Chase at Chicagoland Motor Speedway, is an offshoot of the NASCAR Green program, which introduced clean-burning E15 to the sport five years ago. Since that time, Sunoco Green E15 has cut harmful emissions at races from coast to coast by more than 20 percent.

Convening in Chicago for the second time in the last three years, a distinguished roster of participants examined the future of environmental sustainability and its impact on American consumers. American Ethanol driver Austin Dillon represented the brand during a panel discussion on the importance of sports in climate change, how sports are helping protect the planet and how sports leaders are advancing green behavior.

Dillon has utilized his relationship with Growth Energy, Dow, Bass Pro Shops and other partners to become an influencer in environmental sustainability. Other panel speakers included fellow NASCAR driver Sam Hornish, Jr.; two-time NBA Champion Portland Trailblazers player Mike Miller; former NFL linebacker and current sustainable farmer Will Witherspoon; and current UFC Welterweight Champion and 2014 Fighter of the Year Robbie Lawler. The sport’s switch to E15 American Ethanol was pivotal to NASCAR being recognized as an environmental leader in professional sports.

American Ethanol will be on full display in Chicago this weekend as race fans turn their attention to the kick off of the 10-race NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. Although Dillion did not make the Chase, he will continue to promote E15 as he drives the American Ethanol black and green on his No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet in the 400 on Sunday, September 20. The race will be televised live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Satellite Radio, channel 90. Dillon has one previous NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Chicagoland Speedway, finishing 16th one year ago.

American Ethanol will start the weekend in Chicago as a major sponsor for the American Ethanol E15 225 Camping World Truck Series race on Friday, September 18. The Illinois Corn Marketing Board will join forces with American Ethanol to bring the Biofuels Mobile Education Center to the track as well as hosting more than two dozen guests representing fuel retailers from the Windy City area. You can tune into the race at 7:30 p.m. CDT on FOX Sports 1.
