National Corn Growers
Association Honors President Bush With Friend of Corn Growers Award
WASHINGTON (July 14, 2004) – The National Corn
Growers Association (NCGA) today bestowed its annual Friend of Corn
Growers Award upon
President George W. Bush for his dedication to energy legislation and
other key issues important to U.S. corn growers. Vice President Dick
Cheney accepted the award on behalf of the president.
“President Bush and his administration have been champions for
American agriculture and have aided our country in remaining competitive
in world markets,” said NCGA President Dee Vaughan.
Vaughan said the administration has been instrumental in advancing
corn grower interests in the United States, such as strong farm policy
and renewable domestic energy.
For example, he explained, the Bush administration, with the help
of the agriculture industry, aided in the adoption of the 2002 farm
bill to include a farm safety net that targets assistance to producers
when they need it most.
Vaughan added corn growers appreciate strong Bush leadership,
noting the administration’s commitment to building a sustainable
energy future that includes an energy bill containing a renewable
fuels standard.
“At every turn you have supported sound science and sound policy,” Vaughan
said. "To double ethanol production in four years is a testament
to your strong partnership with corn growers -- and our nation is better
for it.”
