NCGA and VGPA Visit Virginia Tech Ag College (4-22-08)
Virginia Grain Producers Association Executive Director Molly Pugh and National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Vice President of Public Policy Jon Doggett and visited Virginia Tech last week to increase dialogue between the land-grant university and their respective organizations.
Doggett and Pugh met with Sharron Quisenberry, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, to establish a working relationship with the university whereby research and grains industry resources and information are shared.
“We look forward to increasing communications with Virginia Tech, as our land-grant university, for mutually beneficial purposes such as ongoing and future research,” said VGPA Executive Director Pugh. “Our communication will further Virginia’s production agriculture.”
“This meeting was a great opportunity to better understand the dynamics of Virginia Tech,” said Vice President of Public Policy Doggett. “I believe we have planted seeds of communication that will impact the university and corn producers nationwide.”
Virginia Tech University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is in Blacksburg, Va. The college focuses its programs on six key areas: agricultural and environmental sustainability; food, nutrition, and health; biodesign and bioprocessing; the green industry; infectious diseases; and community viability.
This fall, VGPA and NCGA will host an agriculture forum at the university. Quisenberry will also address the VGPA Board of Directors in September.
