House Set to Markup Farm Bill Titles, NCGA Notes (5-21-07)
The long process of designing a new farm bill is under way. The House will begin its initial framework for the markup of the 2007 farm bill this week. The National Corn Growers association (NCGA) will have its eye on the Conservation Title, Energy Title and Livestock Title markups.
The Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy, and Research, chaired by Rep. Tim Holden (D-Penn.), begins markup discussion on the Conservation Title Tuesday.
The Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry begins markup of the Livestock Title on Thursday. This title could be a new addition to the 2007 farm bill or be incorporated into one of the original titles as a subtitle.
The Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy, and Research begins the energy title markup Thursday or Friday.
The timeline for markup of the Commodity Title is still unknown. NCGA believes the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management will begin markup when members return from the Memorial Day recess and to continue through mid-June.
