NCGA Takes Farm Bill Proposals to Capitol Hill (3-16-07)
Members of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Board fanned out across Washington, D.C., Thursday to meet with members of their congressional delegations and discuss NCGA’s National Farm Security Act proposal and pending legislation.
Corn Board members met with representatives and senators from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin to express the views of the nation’s corn growers.
“We’re fortunate the Corn Board is meeting in Washington at a time when agriculture is being discussed in every lawmaker’s office,” said Corn Board member Bob Dickey. “It’s important to be able to talk to our representatives one-on-one to discuss policies that impact our livelihoods every day.”
NCGA also made its presence known in Washington via print, in a special farm policy edition of The Hill newspaper. In the March 14 issue, where lawmakers weighed in on the needs of U.S. agriculture, NCGA placed an advertisement explaining the association’s proposed farm bill recommendation for the 2007 farm bill Commodity Title. Copies of the newspaper also were distributed at the National Agriculture Day luncheon that afternoon.
The Corn Board concludes its meeting in Washington today.
