NCGA Encourages Outreach During Congressional Recess (4-3-07)

As Congress begins its spring recess this week, the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) encourages growers to launch aggressive outreach to members on corn grower issues.
“There is no better opportunity to get key points and issues for corn growers out in front than the congressional recess when members and staff are in their districts and states,” said Ken McCauley, NCGA president. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of the congressional recess this week and meet with members from their districts and states.”
Key issues before congress this year include legislation that would amend and clarify the Superfund laws -- also known as the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) -- to exempt agriculture waste. NCGA is encouraging support for the legislation introduced in the House (H.R. 4341) and Senate (S.807).
Also on the hot legislative list for corn growers is the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) which gained momentum in Congress in March. The House version, H.R. 1495, may be brought to the floor sometime after the House returns April 17. The Senate also could bring its version of the WRDA bill to the floor after its return in mid-April.
NCGA also encourages growers to contact their lawmakers concerning other key issues, such as: voicing support for NCGA’s farm bill proposal, the National Farm Security Act, and encouraging congressional members to ensure market access for U.S. beef within the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
