NCGA Provides Opportunity to Learn ‘Ins’ and ‘Outs’ of Trade (1-24-06)
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) growers have the opportunity to learn the “ins” and “outs” of domestic and international trade issues at the upcoming NCGA Trade School, Jan. 26-27 at the Rosemont Hyatt, Rosemont, Ill.
“NCGA’s first trade school is just days away, but we still have more room for any grower who wants to learn and participate in one of the best educational events so far on trade,” said Bob Bowman, NCGA Joint Trade Policy A-Team chairman. “Trade is such an important issue to our growers. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to learn all the intricacies of domestic and international trade from some of the top speakers on the issue.”
The Trade School, conducted by Kyd Brenner and Craig Thorn of DTB Associates, will address the importance of trade to the industry, the vocabulary of trade and the inner workings of trade negotiations. Featured speaker Dave Lehman, managing director of business development at the Chicago Board of Trade, will discuss “New Tools to Manage International Commodity Price Risks.” Len Condon, director of international business relations for Altria Corporate Services, will discuss “How Global Food Companies Depend on Trade Agreements to Market Your Products to the World,” and Dr. Bruce Babcock will present the “Farm Bill and WTO.”
The Chicago area event is the first of two Trade Schools put on by NCGA. The second event is scheduled for March 30-31 at the Des Moines Marriott in Iowa. The Des Moines conference will have the same agenda, but different guest speakers. Registration fees for each event is $75.
