CornPAC Auction at Commodity Classic to Feature ‘50s Theme (2-24-06)
Commodity Classic attendees looking for a 1950s-style fun will have an opportunity to dance the night away at the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Political Action Committee (CornPAC) dinner and auction Wednesday, March 1, at Anaheim, Calif. Commodity Classic is the joint trade show and convention of NCGA and the American Soybean Association.
A 1950s malt shop and dance party will highlight the event, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel, Grand Ballroom E-F. Elvis and Marilyn Monroe will be on hand for lively entertainment.
“This year’s fundraiser event is an absolute must-attend event,” said Curt Watson, NCGA CornPAC president and Minnesota corn grower. “There is no better way to participate in NCGA”s CornPAC than at this fundraiser where you will be able to add to the strength of the PAC and have fun doing it.”
The event serves as a fundraiser for CornPAC, a grower-led group that contributes to the campaigns of federal candidates and incumbents who support the legislative priorities of corn growers. The CornPAC promotes the interests of corn producers in the electoral process and activates grassroots involvement in pursuit of the public policy priorities of NCGA, Watson said.
“If the farm bill, passage of the Water Resources Development Act and other key legislative priorities for corn growers are important to you, then supporting the CornPAC should be one of your priorities,” he said.
Fred Yoder, CornPAC vice president, said CornPAC is an important tool growers use to promote key legislative issues. “Our PAC is a grower-led group that contributes to legislators that support our priorities. It is very important to have a strong voice on Capitol Hill, and the PAC plays an important role in having a strong and unified voice.”
Among the items on the auction block this year include a duck hunting package, a John Deere power life Gator, Indy 500 tickets, 50 hours use of a tractor and two high-end sea kayaks . The event is sponsored by Rabobank International, Makhteshim Agan of North America, Monsanto and Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a subsidiary of DuPont.
