Growers Encouraged to Tell Their Favorite NCGA Stories at 2006 Commodity Classic (2-15-06)
Plans are under way for the National Corn Growers Association 50th anniversary celebration in 2007, and growers to this year’s Commodity Classic in Anaheim, Calif., will have the opportunity to share their favorite association stories.
Growers are encouraged to stop by the NCGA booth 425 on March 2 and 3 and videotape their favorite associate memory. Farm Journal Media will be in the booth those afternoons assisting with the videotaping. Camera-shy growers can down memory lane by logging their thoughts in a journal that will be in the booth.
“A camera will be set up and growers will be able to share their favorite memories, funny stories, historical notes or reminisce about past leaders,” said Roger Sy, member of NCGA’s Grower Services Action Team. “There will be a book there for those who are a little camera-shy, or growers can e-mail their stories as well.”
NCGA will use the videos throughout the next year to promote the anniversary.
“Fifty years is quite an achievement,” Sy said. “So many other commodity groups have come and gone. NCGA continues to flourish, giving farmers the services and opportunities they need with help on farming and policies. We want to celebrate some of that, touching on our history and recognizing our past leaders.”
He said NCGA wants to remind the public about the history and heritage of American farming.
“We want the celebration to encompass everything: the start of the association, the changes it has experienced over the years, the present and where we see agriculture in the future,” he said.
