Gerald Tumbleson

New Leadership Kicks off NCGA’s 2006 Fiscal Year (10-3-05)

This week marks the start of the 2006 fiscal year for the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), bringing with it new opportunities for the nation’s corn growers, noted Gerald Tumbleson, who became president of the organization Oct. 1.

In addition to Tumbleson, a grower from Sherburn, Minn., Leon Corzine of Assumption, Ill., moves to chairman; and Ken McCauley of White Cloud, Kan., is first vice president. Dee Vaughan ends his service as chairman. NCGA’s Corn Board also has some new faces. Elected to the board this past July were Steven Yoder, Dalhart, Texas; Daryl Haack, Primghar, Iowa; Dave Nelson, Belmond, Iowa; and Darrin Ihnen, Hurley, S.D.

Also marking the new year are grower appointments to NCGA action teams, committees and working groups, as well as rotation in the association’s officers.

“Participating as a member of NCGA’s action teams, committees and working groups is an important part of advancing our organization’s mission of increasing -opportunities for our nation’s corn growers,” Tumbleson said about the appointments. “The organization is only as strong as its growers and being actively involved in our teams and committees builds our membership and our voice.”

Action team and committee chairs and vice chairs are:

• Association Relations Committee – Theresa Schmalshof, Chair, Adair, Ill.
• Biotechnology Working Group – Chair Martin Barbre, Carmi, Ill., and Vice Chair Mike Geske, Matthews, Mo.
• Ethanol Committee – Chair Bruce Noel, Leslie, Mich., and Vice Chair Brian Woldt, Wentworth, S.D.
• Finance Committee –Chair Ron Litterer, Greene, Iowa
• Grower Services Action Team – Chair Dave Boettger, Harlan, Iowa, and Vice Chair Tim Dolan, Winthrop, Minn.
• Joint Trade Policy A-Team – Chair Bob Bowman, De Witt, Iowa.
• Nominating Committee – Chair Leon Corzine, Assumption, Ill.
• Production & Stewardship Action Team – Chair Bill Chase, Wolsey, S.D., and Vice Chair David Ward, Mapleton, Minn.
• Public Policy Action Team – Chair Steve Pigg, Bushnell, Ill. and Vice Chair Mark Schwiebert, Hamler, Ohio.
