McCauley Speaks With
College Students About the Effects of Policy on Agriculture (11-8-05)
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA)
First Vice President Ken McCauley spoke with college students about the
impact of policy decisions on agriculture at the Agriculture Future of
America (AFA) Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Mo., last week.
The annual conference helps college students prepare for agriculture-related
fields. The conference focuses on industry trends, networking opportunities
and workshops on goal setting and personal development.
McCauley headed a table of 10 juniors and seniors from Midwestern and
Eastern universities. He focused the discussion on policy decisions made
in Washington, D.C., and how those decisions have an effect on most jobs.
McCauley said the meeting was beneficial for both him and the students.
“It was interesting to hear the reactions from young people on
how policy affects agriculture in several ways,” said McCauley. “Some
of them did not even think about how agriculture policy affects jobs.
I told them they should become active and part of the political process
while they are young.”
McCauley said he spent about a half hour with the students, talking
about ethanol, jobs and the future of agriculture.
“It’s such a rewarding experience,” McCauley said. “I
wish I could have spent more time with them. AFA is a top-notch organization.
The agricultural industry will get some good people out of this group.”
