NCGA Calls RFS Studies ‘Misleading’ (5-26-05)

National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) President Leon Corzine said today that the release this week of two studies disparaging the positive impact of a renewable fuels standard (RFS) is a well-funded and misleading smear campaign mounted against renewable energy.

“The Senate Energy Committee’s adoption of an 8-billion-gallon RFS Wednesday is indicative of the increasing understanding by the Congress of the impact high and unstable gasoline prices have on our nation’s consumers and the need for comprehensive energy legislation that reduces our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. We are confident that Congress will continue its progress toward passage of an energy bill this year and that scurrilous PR projects will not impede that progress.

“NCGA has worked with many partners over the last four years to pass a comprehensive energy policy,” he added. “Our efforts will continue to be centered on passing an energy bill, not responding to spurious allegations that attempt to deter those committed to improving this nation’s economy and environment through the use of domestically produced renewable fuel.”
