NCGA-Sponsored
Ethanol Pump Tour Stops Friday in North Dakota (5-5-05)
The annual Ethanol
Pump tour, sponsored in part by the National Corn Growers Association
(NCGA), continues to roll through the Midwest, stopping Friday from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Valley Co-op in Valley City, North Dakota.
The tour will be in conjunction with the co-op’s E-85 grand
opening. E-85 fuel will be discounted to $1.49 a gallon for the
event.
Mike Adams,
host of the nationally syndicated AgriTalk radio program, will join
members of the North Dakota Corn Growers Association (NDCGA) to
pump ethanol-blended fuel at a discounted price.
Mike Clemens,
NDCGA president, said the pump tour helps educate consumers on the
advantages of using ethanol-blended gasoline.
“This
event makes the public more aware of the benefits of using ethanol,”
he said, adding that promotional T-shirts, caps and ethanol literature
will also be available at the event. “There are still a lot
of people out there who think ethanol is bad for their cars and
they haven’t had a chance to learn the facts. The pump tour
gives us an opportunity to inform them and correct some of the bad
information that’s out there.”
Clemens said
many consumers who participate in the events are surprised to learn
about the positive effects of ethanol on the environment, economy
and U.S. energy security. “They learn that ethanol is improving
rural economies, cleaning up the air in cities and decreasing our
dependence on foreign oil,” he said.
He added ethanol is great
for producers, adding value to their corn through a product they
can purchase at the gas pump. “I’m not just growing
corn, I’m growing fuel,” he said, calculating he generates
about 308 gallons of fuel per acre.
Clemens said
the discounted E85 is expected to draw long lines, considering high
gas prices. “With gas prices as high as they are, we expect
to see a lot of people taking advantage of this promotion,”
he said.
