NCGA
Announces Leadership Academy Class for 2005-06 (03-23-05)
The National
Corn Growers Association (NCGA) has announced its class and dates
for the 2005-2006 NCGA Leadership Academy.
The NCGA Leadership
Academy, supported by Syngenta Crop Protection, is a two-part program
designed to give state association and checkoff board members individual
training to increase their effectiveness as state leaders.
Part one of the
training, Aug. 17-21, 2005, in Greensboro, N.C., exposes state leaders
to NCGA key issue priorities and provides training on association
management, public speaking, presentation, media, persuasion and etiquette.
In addition, leaders are given a presentation about future issues
and trends in agriculture.
Part two, Jan. 29 – Feb. 1, 2006, in Washington, D.C., provides
growers with training on proper techniques in meeting with elected
officials and updates on NCGA’s key legislative issues. It also
is an opportunity for growers to listen to key leaders in other agriculture
associations to learn how organizations interact with another and
listen to key elected and administration officials about pending agriculture
legislation.
“Growers
attending Leadership Academy have the potential to be great leaders
within NCGA and their state organizations,” said NCGA Membership
Services Manager Byron Keelin. “The first step is being active
in NCGA and the state organization. By taking that step, growers have
demonstrated their desire to be leaders, the desire to represent their
fellow growers and, most important, the desire to venture into the
unknown. The second step is taking the lessons they learn at the NCGA
Leadership Academy and implementing them when they go home.”
Keelin also proudly
noted the Leadership Academy grows every year. “This is the
first time we’ve had anyone from Alabama, and the first time
since 1997 that we have had a participant from Georgia,” he
said.
Participants
in the 2005-2006 NCGA are: Jesse Witt, Alabama; Greg Larson, Colorado;
