Will Bring Effectiveness, Continued Grassroots Involvement to NCGA
Corn Board (6-23-05)
Ron Olson, a
corn and soybean grain farmer with his wife in South Dakota, has
gained tremendous experience on a state level and national level
through his positions with the South Dakota Corn Growers and the
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).
Olson has held
positions on NCGA action teams, committees and currently is a Corn
Board member. He hopes to continue his service on NCGA’s Corn
Board and says his past experience as a board member dealing the
budgets, finances and the association’s direction will bring
continuity to the board and the organization. It’s this service,
he says, that enables him to be a much more effective member.
“It’s
exciting to be a part of such a progressive and influential organization
like NCGA,” said Olson. “NCGA is a premier industry
leader. I am always invigorated and motivated to continue to build
our association’s policy, grassroots and mission.”
Olson noted
that the power and credibility behind NCGA comes from its foundation
as a grassroots grower-driven organization. “Its power and
credibility come from the bottom not from the top,” he said.
“That gives confidence to those that NCGA works with that
we will always give a realistic picture of farmers views, needs
and the direction they would like to see the industry go in. This
gives policy makers and industry representatives a strong reliable
base.”
Olson concluded
by saying NCGA needs to be diligent in maintaining grassroots control
and input to maintain its dominance and further strengthen its voice.
“We need to speak with one voice stay on message and be consistent
with policy,” he said.
