AgriTalk
Pump Tour Set for Stop in Geneseo, Illinois (6-23-05)
The AgriTalk Ethanol
Pump Tour makes its way to Geneseo, Ill., on Friday in the ninth pump
tour stop promoting ethanol, the National Corn Growers Association
(NCGA), sponsors of the pump tour, notes.
AgriTalk host Mike Adams
will broadcast live from at the Cenex Convenience Store at 106 S.
Chicago St. from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Employees from radio station WGEN
will pump E-10 fuel from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Adams said the response
at each tour stop has been amazing. “It has been tremendous.
The turnout everywhere we go has been very big,” said Adams.
“In Spencer, Iowa, last week, we had cars lined up a half hour
to 45 minutes before the event started.”
This is the second year
Geneseo has hosted the tour. The town hosted the first event of last
year’s AgriTalk Ethanol Pump Tour, and WGEN pumped more than
3,000 gallons of ethanol-blended fuel.
“We were rarely at
a break,” said WGEN General Manager Gary Petersen, who expects
a similar turnout this year.
Geneseo was not on the
original tour schedule. Adams said a few towns have requested that
AgriTalk swing by for the promotions.
“It’s been
so popular that communities and others have called us to be a part
of the tour,” he said. “There was such a turnout the last
time, (WGEN) wanted us to come back.”
Adams said the stops have
become a town event.
“They’ve
become events or part of events on their own,” he said. “It’s
encouraging to see the outpouring of support and the interest in renewable
fuels such as ethanol. It’s an opportunity, not only for promotion,
but also for education.
The pump tour
is aimed at bolstering public awareness around corn-based ethanol
and its use as a domestic, renewable-energy resource. Now in its fourth
year, the tour was started by Adams as a way to promote use of the
corn-based renewable fuel.
AgriTalk is broadcast
live to 74 stations across the country. It can be heard locally on
WGEN 1500 AM in Geneseo.
