AgriTalk Ethanol Pump Tour Rolls into Iowa (6-16-05)

After a stop in Hutchinson, Minn., on Thursday, the AgriTalk Ethanol Pump Tour heads to Spencer, Iowa, on Friday. Clay County corn growers will pump E-10 and discuss ethanol use from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cargo Express where AgriTalk host Mike Adams will broadcast live.

Motorists will benefit from a 25-cent per gallon E-10 discount at the event. Last year, Cargo offered E-10 at a reduced rate of 20 cents per gallon. This Friday, motorists will be limited to 20 gallons at the reduced price.

Spencer is hosting its second tour in as many years. Last year, Cargo Express had a tremendous turnout. During a three-hour promotion, motorists pumped 3,744 gallons of E-10.

“We had lines,” said Grower Service Representative Pat McCord of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. “We pumped gas for a solid three hours nonstop. In the rain, too.”

Kent Thiessen, president of the Clay County Growers Association, and growers from Clay County and the surrounding areas, will perform quite a few tasks at Cargo Express.

“They’ll be pumping gas, cleaning windshields and promoting E85, as well as answer questions about E10,” McCord said. “Last year, the line was so long, growers were directing traffic.”

Rich Harves, state director for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, and Judy Bodholdt, state director of the Iowa Corn Growers Association, will also be in attendance.

The pump tour is aimed at bolstering public awareness around corn-based ethanol and its use as a domestic, renewable-energy resource. Now in its fourth year, the tour was started by Adams as a way to promote use of the corn-based renewable fuel.

AgriTalk is broadcast live to 72 stations across the country. It can be heard locally on KICD 1240 AM in Spencer. Adams will broadcast live from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
