Obermoller
Sees Bright Future for Corn Growers (6-15-05)
Ron Obermoller grows
corn and soybeans and raises livestock on his fourth-generation
farm in Brewster, Minn. He has served the Minnesota Corn Growers
Association (MCGA) and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA)
in several capacities. Currently, Obermoller is chairman of the
MCGA’s Expanded Uses Focus Team, which focuses on ethanol
expansion and development. He also is a member of the MCGA Government
Relations Committee. In the past, he served as MCGA president, participated
in the NCGA Leadership Academy and the Minnesota Agriculture and
Rural Leadership program.
And he’s very familiar
with the NCGA Corn Congress.
“I think I’ve
been to every Corn Congress they’ve ever had,” Obermoller
said.
He could be an important
part of the Congress this July, as he’s running for the Corn
Board. Obermoller, a current member of the Research and Business
Development Action Team and Policy & Position Review Committee,
said he thinks there’s a bright future for corn.
“I come from the
research side of things,” Obermoller said. “I’m
a bit of a dreamer. I’d like to shape what the world will
be in 20 years, even 5 years out.”
Obermoller’s interests
include rural development and renewable fuels. He believes serving
on the Corn Board would allow him to solve important issues in those
areas.
“I believe I can
contribute and be constructive,” Obermoller said. “I’m
interested in rural development, and you need an organization to
able to accomplish that.
“The National Corn
Growers Association is a dynamic and forward-looking organization.”
Obermoller strongly believes
in the grassroots nature of NCGA members and that growers’
voice must be heard.
“I haven’t
seen a problem that the growers haven’t solved. The strength
of our organization is our growers. We work problems from the bottom
up,” he said.
