New Uses Key Priority for Nelson in Bid for Corn Board Seat (6-13-05)
Dave Nelson raises corn, soybeans, oats, hay and
other vegetable crops in addition to serving as president of the
Midwest Grain Processors Board. a 50-million gallon farmer-owned
ethanol plant.
Dave’s priorities throughout his 32 years
of involvement in the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the National
Corn Growers Association (NCGA) include growing the emerging biobased
products market; continue expanding the ethanol industry, and modernization
of transportation.
“We can grow the crops to sustain our food
supply, aid in securing a more independent, domestic energy source,
stabilize our economy and be utilized in other consumer products,
but we must also have our transportation infrastructure modernized
to handle this growth,” said Nelson. “These three key
issues will be heard strongly with my board presence.”
Nelson said he wants to be a part of the Corn Board
so that they can further NCGA’s mission to increase opportunities
for corn growers and to serve its member states and develop the
key policy initiatives. “A corn grower is a corn grower no
matter what state he or she is from. Serving on the board means
just that – we serve all our industry.”
Nelson said his years of experience ranging from
production to manufacturing will be a big benefit to the board.
He believes NCGA’s grassroots is its strongest asset –
from the development of policy to its follow through with legislative
alerts to meeting with senator and representative to ensure the
corn industry is represented in a positive manner.
