Yoder Hopes Vast Farming Background Lands Corn Board Seat (7-1-05)
Steven Yoder
and his family operate a family farm in Dalhart, Texas, growing
center-pivot sprinkler irrigated corn, wheat and alfalfa. Yoder
also grew corn in Ohio before moving to Texas, and he believes his
experience as a farmer in the Midwest and South will make him an
excellent member of the Corn Board.
“The best
asset I bring is that I’ve been involved in agriculture in
Ohio and Texas,” said Yoder, who serves as secretary of the
Texas Corn Producers Board. “I’m familiar with dryland
and irrigated farming and know their similarities and differences.”
Yoder is a member
of CornPAC and is a former member of the Public Policy Action Team.
He believes that the Corn Board needs representation from a southern
state.
“I feel
like the southern sates need to be represented,” Yoder said.
“I think I would be a good representative for the southern
states and for the national level.”
Yoder said he
would work with other Corn Board members to ensure the grassroots
level is heard.
“I think
of myself as a leader by example,” he said. “I’m
not a strong, pushy personality. I get things done.”
