AgriTalk
Ethanol Pump Tour Visits Colorado (8-17-05)
The AgriTalk Ethanol
Pump Tour, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), rolls
into Yuma, Colo. August 18 to highlight the wide use and benefits of the
domestically grown renewable fuel – ethanol.
“The pump tour
is a great opportunity to demonstrate several things,” said said
Corn Board member and Yuma, Colo. grower Scott Wall. “First, E85
is available in the area. Second, it’s an affordable substitute to
the high prices of regular gasoline. And third, this tour gives us an opportunity
to talk to people one-on-one about the benefits of E85.”
The pump stop is
in connection with the Yuma farm show and will be at M & M Cooperative’s
E85 fuel pump, where E85 will be sold for $1 per gallon from 10 a.m. to
noon. Wall noted it was a perfect time to have the pump tour come to Yuma
because of the farm show and the high amount of visibility E85 will have.
E85 is a high-octane fuel blended
from 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent unleaded gasoline, designed for
use in flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs). There are more than 4 million FFVs on
the road and more than 30 FFV models. To find out if you can take advantage
of E85 for $1 per gallon, check your owner’s manual or flip the lid
on your fuel tank. Experts will be on-site to help you determine if your
vehicle is a FFV.
Colorado Corn Growers
Association (CCGA) President Trent Bushner noted the AgriTalk pump tour
kicks off a state-wide campaign by Colorado Corn to educate drivers about
flex-fuel vehicles. “It's a shame we have 4 million E85-ready
cars and trucks on the road today, and so few drivers are aware they own
one,” he said.
"Colorado's campaign borrows an excellent tagline from the Minnesota
Corn Growers called ‘Flip Your Lid.’ The Colorado campaign
relies on promotions, such as the Agri-Talk Pump Tour and creative radio
produced by Colorado Corn Grower's subsidiary, FarmCast. Our goal in Colorado
is to double the number of E85 pumps from 10 to 20 in the next 12 months."
Donn Nolin, owner
of M & M Cooperative acknowledged that using E85 is the sensible decision
for its reasonable pricing but also for the reason that it is a homegrown
product that helps agriculture.
The promotion is sponsored
by M & M Cooperative, CCGA and NCGA. AgriTalk is a nationally syndicated
radio program hosted by Mike Adams. The show will be broadcast live on
75 stations in 25 states from 9 to 10 a.m MDT. A live broadcast on the
local affiliate, 1010 KSIR, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon following
the AgriTalk program.
“We appreciate
Mike Adams coming to rural Colorado to help us with the E85 promotion,”
Wall said. “This tour helps to increase the public awareness of corn-based
ethanol and what the agriculture industry is doing everyday to increase
domestic renewable energy sources like ethanol.”
