NCGA Leaders ‘Tell the Story of NCGA’ at Farm Progress Show (9-2-04)

Leaders of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) had the opportunity to tell the association’s story to a wide array of audiences at the Farm Progress Show this week in Alleman, Iowa.

“ Farm Progress was a tremendous opportunity for us to visit with grower leaders from states, with leaders in industry and with the media to tell our story, and it’s a good story to tell. It’s a story of return on investment of corn grower checkoff dollars and membership dues,” said NCGA First Vice President Leon Corzine. “It especially gave us the platform to tell that story to our leaders in Washington, D.C., giving us additional focus to talk about issues that are important to the future of agriculture.”

Corzine and First Vice President-Elect Gerald Tumbleson conducted nearly 30 interviews with broadcast and print media representatives during their two-day visit. Among the topics discussed were issues important to corn growers such as the need for comprehensive energy legislation and modernized locks and dams, as well as reaction to remarks made by President George W. Bush at a rally on Tuesday.

“ It was an honor that NCGA was recognized as part of the greeting by President Bush, who specifically discussed several of our issues, and to meet with him privately,” said Corzine.

He noted Farm Progress is the perfect name for the annual farm event that draws more than 250,000 visitors during its three-day run. “Farm Progress is truly that – progress. It brings together the newest technology, the newest equipment, the newest in seed and the leaders in the agricultural industry,” he concluded. “It’s a wonderful event.”
