Kerry Campaigns Respond to NCGA Questions on Key Corn Grower
Issues (10-19-04)
President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry have responded to questions posed
by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) concerning how the respective
candidates, if elected, would handle various issues of importance to corn growers.
NCGA President Leon Corzine said the question-and-answer format
provides growers with an issue-specific guide to the candidates’ views
on various corn grower concerns.
“This presidential forum will inform corn growers on where each candidate
stands on our issues -- issues that are vital to our communities and livelihoods,” Corzine
said, adding that ethanol and energy policy appear to be issues of critical
importance to both campaigns “The candidates view ethanol and other renewable
energy sources as an important part of our nation’s energy policy.”
Corzine said the questions asked by NCGA cover all six of the
association’s
key issues – ethanol, agricultural research, transportation, farm and
rural development, trade and biotechnology. “The responses from each
campaign show similarities and differences in the candidates’ positions
on biotechnology, trade, farm policy, transportation and a number of other
issues that affect farmers,” Corzine said.
