NCGA Mourns Death of Veteran Farm Broadcaster Gary Wergin

The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is mourning the death
of Gary Wergin, a veteran farm broadcaster from WHO Radio, Des
Moines, Iowa.
Wergin passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, from complications associated
with chemotherapy. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer.
“Gary’s death is a huge loss for NCGA and for all
of agriculture,” said NCGA CEO Rick Tolman, who worked with
Wergin on numerous occasions telling the corn grower story. “When
you think about the value of friendships, personally and as an
organization, you realize the great influence farm broadcasters
like Gary have on our industry. It is difficult to lose a friend
like Gary Wergin. You always hope the shining stalwarts like him
will be there forever.”
Wergin is survived by his wife Amy, daughter Rachael and son Michael
Funeral plans include
a Catholic Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at St. Theresa
Catholic Church at 1230 Merle Hay Road in Des
Moines. A wake is today from 4 –to 8 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran
at 8301 Aurora Ave. in Urbandale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to the Wergin
Children Education Fund in care of St. Theresa School, 1230 Merle
Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50311
