NCGA, AgriTalk Announce Ethanol Pump Tour Locations
(5-10-04)
The National Corn Growers Association
(NCGA), several of its affiliated state associations and AgriTalk Radio are
teaming up to spread the word about the
benefits of using ethanol. AgriTalk’s Mike Adams will be joining growers
in towns throughout the Corn Belt this summer for the “Ethanol Pump Tour,” an
event designed to raise public awareness about renewable fuels.
At each location, volunteers will pump discounted ethanol-blended fuel for
patrons. Ethanol promotional items, such as pump tour commemorative T-shirts,
will be given away, and Adams will host live remote broadcasts. The tour began
February 28 in Geneseo, Ill.
“The pump tour is a great way to promote the advantages of ethanol.
It’s an exciting event and we’re glad to be a part of it,” said
NCGA President Dee Vaughan. “Consumers who participate in these events
not only get fuel at a discounted rate, but they also learn that ethanol is
better for the environment, good for rural economies and increases our nation’s
energy security.”
Vaughan said individual state checkoff programs play an important role in
ethanol promotional efforts like the pump tour. Due in large part to the success
of checkoff-funded initiatives, more than 2.8 billion gallons of ethanol were
produced in the United States in 2003. The ethanol industry is expected to
produce more than 3.3 billion gallons this year.
