NCGA
President Participates in Farm Broadcasters’ Issues
Forum (5-3-04)
National Corn Growers
Association (NCGA) President Dee Vaughan fielded questions from
farm broadcasters on a wide variety of topics May
2 at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters’ (NAFB)
annual “Washington Watch Issues Forum” in Washington,
D.C.
More than 30 farm broadcasters
asked Vaughan and NCGA Vice President of Public Policy Jon Doggett
questions ranging in topic from the
need for efficient transportation networks and infrastructure to
media allegations linking obesity in America to high fructose corn
syrup. Vaughan said farm broadcasters play an important role in communicating
NCGA’s message to the public.
“This was a great opportunity to discuss NCGA’s key
issues with the farm media and to let listeners know where we stand
on those issues,” he said. “Radio is a powerful tool
for communicating with our grower-members and other listeners. Farm
broadcasters are key to our communications efforts here at NCGA.”
The majority of interview questions focused on recent legislative
developments regarding the energy bill and a Renewable Fuels Standard.
Vaughan emphasized the crucial need for a comprehensive energy legislation
package, even as the ethanol market enjoys record production and
demand.
Other popular topics addressed
by Vaughan and Doggett included the state of the economy from a
corn grower’s point of view and
new regulations affecting genetically modified products.
