NCGA-Sponsored Ethanol Pump Tour Stops Friday in St. Joseph, Mo. (7-22-04)

The annual Ethanol Pump Tour, sponsored in part by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), continues to roll through the Midwest, stopping Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Break Time in St. Joseph, Mo.

Mike Adams, host of the nationally syndicated AgriTalk radio program, will join members of the Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA), Golden Triangle Energy Cooperative, MFA Oil Company to pump ethanol-blended fuel at a discounted price. Representatives from KFEQ radio are also expected to participate. Break Time is located at 402 N. Woodbine.

Sam Creed, president of MCGA and a member of NCGA’s Research and Business Development Action Team, said the pump tour helps educate consumers on the advantages of using ethanol-blended gasoline.

“These events make the public more aware of the benefits of using ethanol,” he said, adding that promotional T-shirts, caps and ethanol literature will also be available at the event. “There are still a lot people out there who think ethanol is bad for their cars and they haven’t had a chance to learn the facts. The pump tour gives us an opportunity to inform them and correct some of the bad information that’s out there.”

Creed said many consumers who participate in the events are surprised to learn about the positive effects of ethanol on the environment, economy and U.S. energy security. “They learn that ethanol is improving rural economies, cleaning up the air in cities and decreasing our dependence on foreign oil,” he said.

Creed said the discounted gasoline is likely to draw long lines, considering this summer’s high gasoline prices. “Last year we pumped about 3,000 gallons in three hours,” he said. “We’re hoping to beat that this time. And with gas prices as high as they are, we expect to see a lot people taking advantage of this promotion.”

Remaining pump tour stops are scheduled for the following locations:
• July 30 – Country Corners, Garden City, Kan.
• Aug. 13 – C-Express, 2303 6th Ave. SE, Aberdeen, S.D.
• Aug. 20 – Kabredlo’s, 434 W. 4th St., Pittsburg, Kan.
