Leaders Gather in St. Louis for Priority & Policy Conference (1-15-04)
Corn growers from all of the National Corn Growers
Association’s (NCGA) affiliated states are gathering in St.
Louis today and tomorrow for the annual Priority & Policy (P&P)
Conference.
“We have gathered key leaders of the states
and NCGA to accomplish work that is vital to every corn grower,”
said NCGA President Dee Vaughan. “The results of our work within
the next two days will influence NCGA’s programs and successes
for the next two years.”
The P&P Conference presents state association
delegates with the opportunity to clarify the priorities for their
state organizations for 2005, spell out their state’s priorities
for NCGA for 2005 and comment on NCGA’s Strategic Plan.
Today, delegates will break into sub-committees that
will provide the grassroots guidance to Corn Congress on resolutions
put forth for policy changes. Subcommittees will break out to review
NCGA action team priorities for the coming year. NCGA action teams
consist of: the Biotechnology Working Group, Ethanol Committee, Grower
Services Action Team, Production and Stewardship Action Team, Public
Policy Action Team, Research & Business Development Action Team,
Political Action Committee and the Joint Trade Policy A-Team. In March,
the NCGA delegate body will vote on the changes at Corn Congress in
Las Vegas.
“Our overall job here is to match corn grower
priorities with corn grower policies, making sure they complement
and support each other,” said Vaughan.
