NCGA Photo Contest Winners Announced (12-7-04)

Iowan Ann Jorgensen snapped up the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) grand prize in the NCGA “Gallery of Corn” photo contest with her image of an ear of corn. Jorgensen’s grand prize entry also took first place in the Harvest category.

The photo was one of 65 submitted to the contest, which was open to NCGA members, their families, affiliated state organization members and employees who showcased the nation’s top crop.

“We were delighted with the entries we received,” said Dave Boettger, chair of NCGA’s Grower Services Action Team. “This was our first year for the contest and the caliber of photos submitted was very impressive. I am encouraged that next year’s contest photographs will capture the true meaning of agriculture and the farm family as this one did. The photos should entice those who enjoy seeing pictures as well as those who like taking pictures.”

The photos will be used by NCGA staff and state organizations to illustrate print and web materials and promoting the organizations’ activities and events. The winning images will also be displayed at Corn Congress during the 2005 Commodity Classic in Austin, Texas, Feb. 24-26.

“The photos depicted a wide range of agriculture including nature, the environment and family life on the farm," Boettger explained. "We all have been greatly impressed by the wide range of images and hope that these photographs of farming, its crops, its land and its families will inspire others to recognize that agriculture is invaluable to our country.”
