NCGA Represented at Symposium on Alternative Feeds for Livestock,
Poultry (11-06-03)
The National
Corn Growers Association (NCGA) was represented this week at the Third
National Symposium on Alternative Feeds for Livestock and Poultry
in Kansas City, MO., where there was a strong focus on byproducts
for bio-fuels processing, specifically distillers dried grains with
solubles (DDGS).
NCGA Manager of
Livestock Information and Programs Tracy Snider, who represented NCGA,
noted a tremendous turnout for the conference, which she termed “extremely
informative.”
“Although
the conference was about all byproducts – meat and bone meal,
blood meal, feather meal, rendered fats, etc. – there was a
strong focus on biofuels byproducts such as DDGS,” she said.
“One thing that is very exciting is the growing emphasis on
using distillers grains in non-ruminant diets.”
Snider was also
encouraged by word that DDGS supplies will remain tight through the
winter and prices will stay high.
