Ethanol Pump Tour to Make Two Stops in Indiana
(8-7-03)
The Indiana Corn
Marketing Council and Doane Broadcasting's AgriTalk Radio have teamed
up to bring the ethanol pump tour to Indiana. Two stops are slated
for Aug. 8 and 9 and will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Patrons will
not only get their gas pumped but will have a chance to win a $25
courtesy gas card.
The tour commences
Friday, Aug. 8 with AgriTalk radio personality Mike Adams hosting
a live remote at The Convenience Store of Speedway in Frankfort. When
not on the air, Adams, along with other ethanol interested volunteers,
will be pumping gas and handing out ethanol promotional items. The
Frankfort Speedway is located at 1401 Wabash Street.
Then on Saturday
Aug. 9, Rushville Mayor Bob Bridges will be on hand at The Convenience
Store of Speedway in Rushville, pumping gas and distributing ethanol
promotional items. The Rushville Speedway is located at 731 N. Main.
“The tour
was designed as an opportunity to let people know that ethanol is
available in Indiana,” said Matt Gibson, an Indiana corn grower
and board member of the Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC). He
said Indiana corn growers’ voluntary checkoff dollars, collected
by the ICMC, helped fund this event.
In 2001, 1.77 billion gallons of ethanol were produced, but that number
is predicted to grow tremendously over the next few years, he added.
“It will
give growers a sense of pride to know their corn is being used to
make ethanol,” said Gibson.
Each location will be giving away a $25 gas card courtesy of Speedway.
“Ethanol in my Tank, AgriTalk on my radio,” is the theme
of the event.
“By offering
'full service' pumping at gas stations and in talking with motorists
about ethanol, we are able to educate and inform them about these
positive benefits,” Adams said. He added, “It also gives
us the opportunity to clear up inaccurate claims and concerns people
may have heard about ethanol. All of our previous stops have drawn
good crowds and have given motorists the opportunity to talk with
the producers of their ethanol fuel, American farmers.
