Higher NCGA Membership Numbers
Show Support for Issues (10-11-01)
Chalk
2001 up as another great year for membership within the National Corn
Growers Association (NCGA). The association ended its 2000-2001 fiscal
year Sept. 30 with 31,893 members, an increase of 315 members.
State
corn grower associations in Illinois and Kentucky wrapped up a strong
year by having the biggest increases in September with 101 and 37 new
members, respectively.
"The
state associations deserve a lot of credit for motivating their members
to get out and recruit," said Byron Keelin, NCGA membership services
manager.
"NCGA
is working very hard to make sure it represents the best interests of
U.S. corn producers," said Grower Services Action Team Chairman
and Yuma, Colo., corn grower Scott Wall. "Our work on ethanol,
transportation, trade and research that increases corn grind and movment
are just some of the reasons many growers have signed up. "
Added
Richard Peterson, NCGA Corn Board member and Mountain Lake, Minn., corn
grower, "I think one of the big reasons for the increase is that
growers want a strong voice in Washington, D.C."
The
biggest increase was by the Tennessee Corn Growers Association with
a 17.9% increase in members followed by a 15.9% increase in membership
for the Corn Growers Association of North Carolina. The South Dakota
Corn Grower Association's membership is also up 13.1% from last year.
