Recruiters 'Meet Me in St. Louis' (11-29-01)
The
backbone of any good organization is quality membership. Currently,
the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) has quality in abundance
with 32,000 members who represent over 300,000 corn growers across the
nation. There is, however, always room for more. That is the focus of
a membership recruitment kickoff meeting taking place today in St. Louis.
The
meeting, sponsored by Syngenta Seeds and Syngenta Crop Protection, has
attracted 25 participants from 16 state associations who will learn
new methods of both recruiting new members and also retaining them.
"Recruiters who come to this meeting will learn about the numerous
tools NCGA has available to help them increase recruitment and retention,"
said NCGA Membership Services Manager Byron Keelin.
"The
group attending the meeting will learn about some of NCGA's new membership
programs," continued Keelin, "as well as the new upgrades
to the Grower Information Management System (GIMS). The most notable
GIMS upgrade has been the development of an online joining and renewal
system that is available at the NCGA website, www.ncga.com.
"We're
really excited about it and we think this will make joining NCGA more
convenient for the prospective member."
One
of the key features of this program, said Keelin, is a discussion by
membership marketing professional Mark Levin, CAE.
"Levin
will talk with the attendees about creating an effective membership
marketing strategy," he said. "In addition, state association
staff will also learn marketing training from Jeff Demmer, the national
sales manager from Syngenta Seeds.
"Recruiters
will leave here with the tools to inform corn growers about the benefits
of NCGA membership," concluded Keelin, "and with the abilities
and the talent of the participants of this meeting, I have no doubt
membership within NCGA will continue to increase."
