NCGA's
Tolman Talks Trade and Farm Bill with Texas Corn Growers (11-26-01)
National
Corn Growers Association (NCGA) CEO and Executive Vice President Rick
Tolman is heading to the Lone Star State to discuss issues affecting
Texas corn growers and the entire NCGA.
"I'm
looking forward to discussing issues such as farm bill and trade with
the growers in Texas and letting them know what NCGA has planned in
the coming months and how it affects them," he said.
Tolman
plans to address the Texas Corn Board as well and give remarks to the
the Texas Commodity Conference. Tolman will also participate on a panel
to review issues such as the 2002 farm bill. "We'll be sharing
some of our thoughts on farm bill and what we need to do to make it
work," he said.
Another
topic Tolman plans to address is NCGA's support of lifting trade sanctions
on Cuba after the horrific damage and loss of life inflicted recently
by Hurricane Michelle. "We need to lift some of the red tape surrounding
trade restrictions with Cuba in light of the destruction caused by Hurricane
Michelle," he said. "We have certain agreements in place with
Cuba for food and medicine, but there are certain rules and regulations
that preclude the humanitarian effort necessary to help Cuba at this
time.
"The
possibility of trade with Cuba is a benefit to the nation's corn growers
because it provides another outlet for our product and it helps our
reputation in terms of sanctions issues," continued Tolman. "It's
a great symbolic representation of our commitment to free trade."
