NCGA Applauds Appointment of Top Corn Industry Leader To Bush Agriculture

The
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) welcomed the announcement on
Friday, Nov. 2, that President George W. Bush appointed Chuck Connor
former president of the Corn Refiners Association, as assistant to the
president for Agricultural Trade and Food Assistance.
In his new assignment,
Connor will work with Congress, the Department of Agriculture and the
nation's 's farming and ranching community in the development of President
Bush's agriculture policy.
"Chuck Connor
has been a close ally of corn and agriculture for many years,"
said Bruce Knight, NCGA Vice President of Public Policy, "NCGA
looks forward to working closely with Connor during farm bill deliberations,
as we seek a farm policy that provides growers with financial assistance
when it is needed, and that is non-trade or planting distorting."
"This appointment
underscores the enormous importance of agriculture in our nation's economy,"
said John David Estes, White House Office of Public Liaison.
Secretary of Agriculture
Ann Veneman added, "(Connor's) appointment will further strengthen
the administration's agriculture team as we continue to address the
important issues affecting America's farmers and ranchers."
