As
Trade Promotion Authority Nears Vote, NCGA Boosts Support (11-02-01)
The
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) has redoubled its effort on
Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), encouraging members of the House of
Representatives to pass HR
3005, the Bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority bill. "Trade
Promotion Authority will help bring the United States to the bargaining
table, instead of not being at the table at all. That is why Congress
must pass TPA now," said, Brent Porteus, Coshocton, Ohio, farmer
and chairman of the NCGA Public Policy Action Team.
A vote
on TPA is expected during the week of Nov. 5. "The essence of TPA,"
Porteus said, "is that it gives the President enhanced trade negotiating
powers, and furthers his ability to enter favorable trade agreements
- instead of being left with the short end of the stick.Corn growers
need to continue calling, faxing and e-mailing their representatives
to support HR3005.
