CEO Tolman Elected Vice Chairman of MARC 2000 (11-01-01)
The National Corn
Growers Association's (NCGA) CEO and Executive Vice President Rick Tolman
was elected Vice Chairman of the Midwest Area River Coalition 2000 (MARC
2000) earlier this week at the organization's 10th annual meeting.
"It's a great
opportunity," said Tolman, who begins his duties. "The situation
with the rivers, whether it's 'spring-rise' on the Missouri or improving
the locks and dams on the Missisissippi and Illinois, is very important
and we need to ensure corn growers have their voices heard in a situation
that directly affects them."
MARC 2000's mission
is to form a coalition of agricultural, industrial, shippers, carriers,
environmental and government interests to promote Midwest economic growth
by responsibly developing and improving the Upper Mississippi and Illinois
River Systems.
MARC 2000 will:
* Increase awareness of the importance of the Inland Waterways
* Increase awareness of Lock and Dam replacement needs
* Prioritize projects on the basis of economic and environmental impact
* Develop political support for Lock and Dam replacement needs at the
Federal, State, and Local levels
* Secure timely funding for capital projects
Tolman's duties
in this leadership position begin Jan. 1 for 12 months and will include
serving on the executive committee of the MARC 2000 board.
