NCGA
and Nebraska Corn Grower Leaders Improve Leadership Skills
(12-13-01)
Grower members of
the Nebraska Corn Development, Utilization and Marketing Board and the
Nebraska Corn Growers Association gathered tips on improving their leadership
skills at a seminar sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association
(NCGA) and Syngenta Crop Protection Dec. 10-11, in Omaha, Neb.
Growers were provided
with intense training on media relations and presentation skills. "These
growers are the spokespersons for growers in their state," said
Byron Keelin, NCGA membership services manager. "It is important
that they have the training and skills necessary to be an even more
effective voice."
The meeting also
included a discussion on issues the grower leaders are facing and how
the Nebraska Corn Growers Association, Nebraska Checkoff Board and NCGA
can help them face these challenges and improve the profitability and
opportunities for corn growers.
During the conference,
growers were asked to list the top issues facing them daily. The list
included topics such as industry competition, food safety, transportation
problems, water quality, ethanol issues, consumer awareness and taxes.
"It's really
impressive," said Keelin, "to hear the knowledge this group
of producers had on these issues. And they're not just sharing that
knowledge locally, but they're displaying it both nationally and internationally."
