NCGA
Inundated with Corn Yield Contest Entries (8-9-01)
The
final entry deadline for the National Corn Growers Association's (NCGA)
National Corn Yield Contest (NCYC) was Aug.1 and the NCGA office in
St. Louis has seen hundreds of entries. The contest is an annual event
sponsored by NCGA.
"Contest
participants improve their operations by getting a unique opportunity
to compare their own proven corn production capabilities with farmers
in their state and across the country," said Paul Bertels, NCGA's
director of production and marketing. . "The NCYC's goal is to
educate farmers on improving their methods of production to increase
profitability while addressing environmental concerns."
Once
again, , NCGA has incorporated additional questions into the entry form
regarding entrants' non-contest corn production. Bertels noted, "This
limited information will allow NCGA to demonstrate that its contest
entrants are not only outstanding farmers, but are committed stewards
of the land."
Winners
of this year's NCYC will be honored at the 2002 Commodity Classic, the
combined convention and trade show of the NCGA and the American Soybean
Association (ASA), Feb. 21-23, 2002, in Nashville, Tenn. Along with
national recognition, winners receive prizes from participating seed
and crop protection companies.
