NCGA
President Lee Klein Represents Nation's Corn Growers in Thailand (5-17-01)
NCGA President Lee Klein left Tuesday, May 15, for an 11-day trip to
Bangkok, Thailand, where he is participating in a U.S. State Department
Speakers Program. Klein will make presentations to Thai farmers, educators
and government officials as well as a group from the American Chamber
of Commerce in Thailand. His topics will include NCGA and biotechnology
and trends in U.S. agriculture and corn production. Before leaving,
Klein noted that the invitation by the State Department requesting the
NCGA's participation reflects the respect the government has for NCGA
as the nation's leading corn grower organization. "This will be
a great opportunity to represent the nation's corn growers internationally,"
said Klein. "I will also have the opportunity to explain NCGA's
position on biotechnology and other issues facing corn growers."
Although Thailand has traditionally been a net corn exporter, the country
is in transition, and corn growers anticipate it will become an importer
of corn, Klein said, adding that Thailand remains a key player in the
international corn market.
