Provides Biotech Information to International Visitors (6-27-01)
The National Corn
Growers Association (NCGA) hosted visitors from Poland this week, providing
the international ag specialists with information and ideas on biotechnology.
The meeting, sponsored
by the U.S. State Department, is meant as an international outreach
program intended to introduce farming representatives from around the
world to U.S. biotech experts. NCGA CEO and Executive Vice President
Rick Tolman said the advantages of these meetings are great. "We
must continue to engage in discussions of all topics with these and
other international visitors. We live in a global economy and it's important
that we know their thoughts and opinions and equally important that
we convey ours to them."
While here, the
Polish visitors were provided with information on not only biotech,
but ethanol and research as well. They were given examples of corn-derived
polymers and fiber utilization.
The visitors were
also interested in the views of biotechnology by U.S. farmers and consumers.
"Poland is currently petitioning to join the European Union (EU),"
said Tolman, "and they wanted to hear another side of the biotech
debate."
The NCGA continues
in its efforts to inform and educate visitors from around the world
with upcoming meetings scheduled with representatives from Ukraine,
France and Venezuela.
