NCGA, Syngenta Team Up to Provide Powerful
Training (6-24-01)
The National Corn
Growers Association (NCGA) and Syngenta are providing valuable training
for tomorrow's leaders by sponsoring the State Presidents Leadership
Program Aug. 22-25 in Greensboro, N.C.
The purpose of the
seminar is to train individuals from the state associations to strengthen
leadership skills for the benefit of their respective organizations,
explained NCGA Membership Services Manager Byron Keelin.
"Attendance
at the program will definitely give the attendees an edge. It's set
up to help potential leaders be more effective representing members
of their state associations and the corn industry as a whole,"
he said. "Some of the skills we focus on are public speaking, media
training and interview skills, as well as showing them techniques to
conduct more effective meetings," he said.
The meetings take
place twice a year, in August and January. The January meeting is unique
in that part of the training requires participants to visit Washington,
D.C., and speak with their congressional delegations to help develop
communication skills.
Keelin said the
program is yet another way NCGA assists state associations to better
serve their members as possible. "I think the program provides
solid, tangible benefits for the growers and the state associations,"
he said. "It's one way to help strengthen the organization as a
whole."
