NCGA Nominates Ohio Farmer as President-Elect (6-21-01)
The
National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) Corn Board has nominated Plain
City, Ohio, farmer Fred Yoder as the next president-elect of NCGA. The
action occurred today at the NCGA Corn Board meeting in Chestertown,
Md.
Yoder, a member
of the Corn Board and currently the chairman of the NCGA Biotechnology
Working Group, said, "I'm honored to be able to represent such
a great group of farmers. I look forward to this outstanding opportunity
to work on behalf of the nation's corn growers."
Being elected as
president-elect starts a three-year process of NCGA leadership. The
first year is spent as president-elect, the second year is spent as
NCGA president and in the third and final year, the elected grower is
the chairman of the corn board.
The next step for
Yoder as president-elect is to be ratified by the 125-member Corn Congress
at its July 16-17 meeting in Washington, D.C.
NCGA CEO and executive
vice-president Rick Tolman said the nominating process is an important
one. "We want the best leaders in agriculture to step forward and
lead us, both as president-elect as well as on the Corn Board itself,"
he said.
