Key Commodity Officials to Address NCGA Corn Congress

NCGA leaders are preparing for their semi-annual Corn Congress July 14-15 in Washington, D.C. This year, key speakers for the event will be Rick Berman, executive director of the Center for Consumer Freedom, James E. Newsome, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio), this year's recipient of the NCGA President's Award. (More On This Story)

PRX's Hudson Predicts 'Record Yield' in 2003 Corn Production

Despite flooding in the eastern Corn Belt and areas of dryness remaining throughout the nation, ProExporter (PRX) President Bill Hudson said this year's corn crop has the potential to break the harvest record of 138.6 bushels per acre set in 1994. Hudson, who is slated to speak July 15 on the current natural gas/fertilizer crisis (see http://www.ncga.com/news/notd/2003/july/070903.htm) at NCGA’s semi annual Corn Congress in Washington, D.C., said it's all a matter of predicting the unpredictable. NCGA Calls on Senate Energy Committee to Look at Ways to Increase Natural Gas

In a letter Thursday to the Senate Energy Committee, NCGA encouraged members to fully examine policies that would increase the nation’s supply of natural gas. NCGA’s letter arrived the same day as the committee’s oversight hearing on natural gas that discussed reasons behind the high price of natural gas, its effect on the economy and potential solutions. NCGA Concerned Over Natural Gas Crisis; PRX's Hudson to Address Issue at Corn Congress

Extreme volatility in the U.S. natural gas market is causing massive spikes in the price of fertilizer and has NCGA concerned. According to numbers released by The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) at its recent Natural Gas Summit, 11 ammonia plants representing 21 percent of the U.S. capacity have been closed since 2000 when the crisis began. NCGA Urges Senate to Confirm Dorr Nomination

NCGA Thursday sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) endorsing Tom Dorr’s nomination for undersecretary for rural development. (More On This Story)
