Corzine
Nominated as NCGA President-Elect by NCGA Corn Board
NCGA Biotech Working
Group Chairman and Assumption, Ill., corn grower Leon Corzine was nominated
by the NCGA Corn Board as the next president-elect at its meeting in
Lansing, Mich., Friday.
“I’m
looking at this as a great opportunity to be a part of the leadership
team of our NCGA board and I’m honored to be part of such a dynamic
group,” he said. “I look forward to continue representing
NCGA and the nation’s corn growers in the important issues affecting
them on the farm. I feel like that’s what we do best and that’s
what we’ll continue to do.”
Corzine, a fifth
generation producer, and has served in many leadership capacities and
is involved locally with his school board and consolidation committees.
He has served as Illinois Corn Growers Association president and as
member of the Illinois Corn Growers Board of Directors since 1994. On
the national level, Corzine most recently has served as chairman of
the Biotech Working Group. In addition, he has served on the NCGA Corn
Board and Search Committee,and as vice chairman of the NCGA Production
and Stewardship Action Team.
Corzine’s
nomination will be ratified at Corn Congress July 14-16 in Washington,
D.C.

Chairman Tim Hume Attends Payment Limitations Commission Workshop
NCGA Corn Board
Chairman Tim Hume was one of 12 participants Tuesday to respond to expert
testimony at a payment limitations public workshop in Washington, D.C.
Hume spoke to the commission in response to testimony from a panel of
farm policy experts expressing a wide range of views on proposals for
tighter payment limitations during the Commission on the Application
of Payment Limitations for Agriculture workshop. (More

when the House passed H.R. 8, the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act of

Members Urge Lock and Dam Authorization on Capitol Hill
NCGA members and
Illinois growers Ron Fitchhorn, and Garry Niemeyer were on Capitol Hill
Tuesday with representatives from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters
(UBC) to engage in a "trial run" lobbying tour. The visit
was in preparation for a joint effort between MARC 2000, NCGA and the
labor industry for a "fly-in" next year to push for lock and
dam authorization. (More

Says Biosafety Protocol Will Impact Corn Trade Significantly
The Biosafety Protocol
(BSP) will have a significant impact on agricultural trade in general
and on corn in specific, according to the NCGA. The BSP was ratified
June 13 after receiving approval from Palau, the 50th and final country
needed for ratification. The BSP will be put into force on Sept. 11.
