AROUND THE CORN BELT
News from State Associations

Colorado: The Governor’s E85 Coalition and Colorado Corn Growers Association are celebrating the opening of three new alternative fuel pumps at the Agland, Inc. Cenex station located in Greeley. The station will carry E85. It is the second location in Greeley to carry E85.

Illinois: A delegation of Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA) members went to Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress, conduct agency visits, and discuss trade issues at embassies. Farm Bill, ethanol, and river and rail transportation will be key topics on the ICGA agenda.

Iowa: State leaders and members of the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) met with Iowa legislators in Des Moines this week to bring attention to a number of “simmering” issues. “Ethanol isn’t the only issue that matters to Iowa’s corn producers,” said Bob Bowman, ICGA chair. “This year, we’re talking to our state senators and representatives about weight limits on Iowa roads, the Missouri River, and Iowa State University bioscience research efforts.”

Kentucky: The Kentucky Corn Growers Association and Kentucky Small Grain Growers have partnered with the Chicago Climate Exchange to offer members additional revenue opportunities for the sequestered carbon in their grassland and continuous conservation tillage farmland. Enrollees must submit the application located on this site along with FSA maps of enrolled land and a 2006 FSA crop certification summary (CCC-578). Application deadline is March 31, 2007.

Nebraska: The U.S. must continue to fight hard for increased shares of beef and pork markets in Asia. That’s the consensus of three Nebraska producers who have spent a week in Japan and Taiwan attending the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Market Expo. The Nebraska Corn Board sponsored their travel and participation in the event.

Ted Strickland has announced a $1 billion investment in energy programs "to ensure energy will be an economic development leader in Ohio."
