NCGA Urges Growers to Manage Herbicide Programs
Recent reports of herbicide-resistant giant ragweed in Indiana and Ohio, and similar reports of herbicide-resistant Palmer amaranth (pigweed) in Georgia and North Carolina once again focus attention on the need for weed resistant management (WRM) programs. The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) urges growers to adapt and follow a consistent WRM program. (More On This Story)

News from State Associations

Michigan: For the seventh year check-off funded research will be presented at the Corn and Soybean Winter Research meetings. The information collected from Michigan State University researchers funded through the corn and soybean check-offs will be highlighted. The Corn and Soybean Winter Research Meetings, begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m., in the following locations:

  • Jan. 15  – Ubly Heights Country Club, Ubly, Jim Mantey (989) 269-9949
  • Jan. 18 – Van Buren Center, Lawrence, Mike Staton (269) 657-7745
  • Jan. 19 – Eagle Eye Golf Club, Bath, Marilyn Thelen (989) 224-5240

To register for one of the winter research meetings, call the extension agent at the number listed for the location you wish to attend.

 

South Dakota: Congressman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., will deliver the keynote address at the 21st Annual Meeting of the SDCGA on Jan. 6, 2007 at the Sioux Falls Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center. Rep. Peterson will become Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee in January.

Tickets for the Annual Meeting banquet are $25 for members of the SDCGA or $100 for non-members. The day-long educational seminars are at no cost and open to the public. Register by calling the SDCGA at 605-334-0100.
