National Corn Growers Association membership climbed to even higher heights setting yet another membership record at the end of March, with 40,793 active members on the rolls. This membership record replaces the former record, of 40,287, set in February of 2014.   “We’re thrilled to set yet another membership record at a time when the average membership in trade associations like ours is flat or declining,” said NCGA President Martin Barbre. “Not only do we offer a terrific set of member benefits, but our growers know the value NCGA offers in Washington and throughout the country and recognize that grassroots efforts have been the strength and driving force behind their organization.”    NCGA has members across the contiguous United States and works in cooperation with grower associations and state corn checkoff boards from 28 states, representing the interests of its members and the more than 300,000 growers who contribute corn checkoff funds in their states.   Click here...

Jan. 7:  With temperatures dropping well below freezing and snow seen in unusual places, the “polar vortex” affecting much of the nation means farmers have to work extra hard to stay updated on what to expect while they prepare for planting. The NCGA-FMC Ag Weather Advisor, prepared by Blue Water Outlook, is a special free member benefit that can help growers stay a step ahead.   “The weather that is occurring this winter—the extreme cold and frequent snow fall over parts of the Corn Belt—are setting the stage for spring and summer growing conditions,” said John Feldt of Blue  Water Outlook.  “The NCGA-FMC Ag Weather Advisor provides valuable insight, analysis and information not easily found elsewhere on the key factors shaping the weather right now and well into the future.  This information can help growers make critical weather-related decisions throughout the entire year.”   Among the offerings subscribers to the free service receive each week, the BWO Agriculture Weather...

Aug. 9: On July 31, the National Corn Growers Association reached a major milestone as membership rolls surpassed the 40,000 mark, reaching a total of 40,157. Off the Cob sat down this week with NCGA Grower Services Action Team Chair Brandon Hunnicutt, a farmer from Nebraska, to discuss why the association continues to grow.   “There are many reasons that NCGA continues to grow its membership,” Hunnicutt explained. “First, we have a great stable of benefits, which is something that a lot of people look at when they consider joining an organization. More importantly, I think that we have a strong organization that is looking out for the best interests of America’s corn farmers. Farmers realize that this is something that we need to be a part of. We realize that we don’t have the resources some organizations do or that some of our opponents do, but we have something more important – we have the voices of America’s corn farmers.”   Looking at what makes the association unique, he...

July 2: Membership at the National Corn Growers Association reached a new all-time high with 39,042 on the rolls as June closed. This membership record replaces the former of 38,810 members at the close of April in 2013, and it marks the first time membership has surpassed the 39,000 member threshold.   “While many have theorized that the United States has reached a post-membership society and that enrollment and active participation in civic groups will continue to decline, farmers across the country increasingly see the valuable service NCGA provides to all corn growers and act in support of our mission,” said NCGA Grower Services Action Team Chair Brandon Hunnicutt. “Whether working to promote innovations that increase opportunity or voicing the support of America’s farmers for the Renewable Fuels Standard in Washington, NCGA draws upon the strength of its more than 39,000 members so that, together, we can accomplish much more than we ever could acting alone.”   Throughout...

Feb. 28: The National Corn Growers Association, in conjunction with cosponsor BASF, honored five college students with scholarships this week at Commodity Classic 2013 in Kissimmee, Fla. This year, the scholarships, created to foster promising agricultural leaders for the future, provided five winners with $1,000 for use in pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. This year, the scholarship has been renamed the NCGA William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program, in memory of Ohio corn grower and NCGA colleague Bill Berg. A long-standing member of the NCGA Grower Services Action Team and true believer in the scholarship program, Bill unexpectedly passed away last year. “Anyone who ever met Bill knew he had a passion for agriculture; this seemed like a fitting way to honor his memory and support the future of the industry he loved so much,” said NCGA Pam Johnson. The program will continue its mission of recognizing academic excellence to foster the...
