This Wednesday, July 23, Austin Dillon, sporting the American Ethanol colors, will be slinging some dirt and trying to defend his crown at Eldora Speedway for NASCAR’s Mudsummer Classic World Truck series race. In 2013, Dillon pushed E15 American Ethanol into the spotlight and his truck into Victory Lane in the historic race.

“Eldora is always an exciting race for NASCAR fans, but it is an exciting opportunity for corn farmers too,” said National Corn Growers Association NASCAR Advisory Committee Chair Jon Holzfaster. “With American Ethanol spokesman Austin Dillon firmly in the spotlight, Eldora provides a great platform to get our message about the environmental and economic benefits ethanol offers all Americans to a broader audience. The buzz continues to grow. Ethanol helps clean our air, improve our economic independence and benefits American consumers and farmers alike.”

A lot of attention was focused on the inaugural MudSummer Classic last year as it marked the first time a NASCAR national touring series race was contested on dirt since Sept. 30, 1970, an event held at the one-mile State Fairgrounds Speedway in Raleigh, North Carolina and won by Richard Petty. Some of the biggest names in racing returned to their dirt track roots to be a part of racing history.

Dillon, who currently races in NASCAR’s premier Sprint Cup Series, won the maiden truck race, his first truck race since winning NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series championship in 2011 . He won driving an American Ethanol branded truck by virtue of holding off a hard charging Kyle Larson who finished 1.2 seconds behind Dillon.

The rivalry did not end there. After moving up through the ranks of truck and stock cars in the NASCAR Nationwide Series the two moved on the NASCAR’s elite Sprint Cup Series this year. Dillon and Larson are the top two contenders in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year competition where they have trade the lead numerous times this season.

Larson is expected to be out for revenge at Eldora after losing the race to Dillon on the last lap of the 2013 race. Tune in to Fox Sports 1 at 9 p.m. (ET) to catch the race and see the American Ethanol Green Flag drop, or listen in on MRN and Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).

American Ethanol, a partnership of Growth Energy and the National Corn Growers Association, is working with NASCAR to introduce a cleaner-burning fuel to America. E15 fuels like Sunoco Green E15, which is unleaded gasoline blended with 15% ethanol, will support jobs in America’s heartland.

Education and promotional efforts relate to the American Ethanol program have turned NASCAR fans into big ethanol supporters as they have learned more about the environmental and performance characteristics of the corn-based fuel. American Ethanol became a key part of the NASCAR Green program starting with the 2011 season.
