Partnering to Advocate on Behalf of Livestock Industry
NCGA has joined forces with the Animal Agriculture Alliance to partner on specific projects addressing issues that are important to the livestock industry. The primary program areas currently are a Public Opinion Survey, Myths & Facts Brochures, and Liaison Work with National Livestock Organizations.

NCGA has launched an educational outreach program with the Animal Ag Alliance and other industry associations. The goal of the program is to provide consumers, retailers, food service institutions and school children with reliable and factual information about animal production from farm to table.

The collaborative effort will involve two major projects to be completed in 2004—a public opinion survey and informational brochure. The survey will focus on issues, such as animal welfare, food safety and biotechnology.

The brochure will address concerns raised about animal agriculture. Collaborators will distribute this publication at public forums, restaurants, and schools.

Collectively, beef, poultry, pork and dairy producers represent corn growers’ number-one customer, consuming 5.6 billion bushels annually. Corn used directly as feed represents nearly 60% of consumption, however, industrial co-products used as feed represents another 20% of corn usage. The co-products of industrial processing are largely fed to ruminants domestically and internationally. The ability to sell these co-products profitably can indicate the potential financial success of certain industrial processes, such as ethanol production. With the majority of U.S. corn being fed to domestic livestock, it is of utmost importance to work with this industry to address issues of mutual concern.
